On Sunday, September 21st SMYPP held a Supper and Speaker event, where member Cecil Coutinho, PhD gave a talk about Science and Christianity. Cecil has been a member of our group for about six months, and has quickly become an integral part of SMYPP. This talk revolved around questions he has been asked as he has gone through his life as a Catholic and a scientist. Some highlights of his talk included a discussion on the beginning of the world, the story of 3’s and how he finds ways to evangelize in the workplace. This event also featured a delicious dinner and some networking before and after the talk.
Ways to Evangelize in the Workplace
Attend daily mass during lunch hour 1x a week (invite a coworker to join you!)
Carry a rosary on you, or in your car and don’t be shy about answering when someone asks about it.
Behave in a Christian way, and lead by example.
If anyone has any other techniques or ideas, feel free to share them!
The Story of 3’s
In the Bible, and in our faith, we learn about the Trinity of the Lord, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They are all part of one Trinity and yet different from each other. This can be analogized to the coordinate systems used in mathematics and engineering, such as Cartesian (x, y, z). To learn more about the story of 3’s, feel free to ask Cecil when you next see him, or do your own research.

Join us for a very special and spiritual Speaker & Supper event this Sunday, March 17th. This month, we will be participating in St. Mary’s Lenten Mission. Please note that we will begin at 5:00 pm with appetizers and dinner in the St/ Mary’s room (our usual meeting location) and then join the rest of the parish in the church at 7:00 pm. During this time, Fr. Paul Henry will present on the topic of spirituality.
After a brief hiatus due to the weather, SMYPP Supper & Speaker will be back up and running on Sunday, November 18th, from 4 pm to 7 pm. This month, our speaker will be Meg Kilmer, who will be focusing on the topic of New Evangelization, a charge from the Pope to Catholics to spread the Good News.
In addition to our usual activities, we will also have a Christmas Giving Tree. Members are encouraged to take a tag and buy a gift for a child/person in need. Gifts are due to St. Mary’s on Saturday December 15th. We ask that the gifts be wrapped.
We will also be discussing our second annual Christmas Party, which will take place on Sunday, December 16th at the Elizabeth House in Wilmington. This year, we will be using a potluck format, so we will have a sign up sheet at the meeting for members to bring food or beverages. Help us make this year’s celebration a success!
Our next Supper & Speaker event will be held on Sunday, July 15, from 4-7 pm in the St. Mary Room. Please join us for a social hour, a fantastic dinner, and stimulating conversation. This month, instead of our usual speaker set-up, we will be hosting a panel that includes 3 fellow SMYPP members: Anna Muto, Tom Bounds, and Ky Bertoli. They will discuss living their Catholic faith in their everyday lives. This is a great opportunity to hear from our peers, learn from each other, and share our thoughts.
